Medieval Castle in Cesis
Cesis is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of Latvia. The ancient capital of the Livonian Order and one of the first stone fortifications that were built by German crusaders.
The city is located in the northern part of the Central Vidzeme Upland, on the River Gauja.
In 2006, the town of Cesis celebrated 800 year anniversary. It is the third oldest city in Latvia, with beautiful buildings with red tile roofs, fenced yards and cobblestone paved streets, which still have retained their planning since the Middle Ages.
